Meet St Paul Photographer

Emily Koivisto

Hi, I'm Emily, the lady behind the lens, thanks for stopping by! I am a natural and studio light photographer specializing in maternity, newborn, family, and senior photography. While those are the most common sessions I book, I am happy to chat with you about your special events, family reunions, or making your vision come to life. I am based out of the Twin Cities, and when I am not hanging out with your family, chasing the sunlight, and scouting out the perfect locations, I am living my best life with my tiny humans, Charley and AJ. As challenging as mom life can be sometimes, so far it has been my favorite job. I spend a lot of my time in my gardens (yes plural, I have several). During the off-season when I can't play in the dirt, you'll find me sporting my favorite pair of sweats and an oversized hoodie, I literally live in them during the winter. Unless of course I actually have to go to work, in which case you'd find me in  scrubs at a local hospital working as an oncology nurse. Wherever I am, I will almost always have a Diet Coke in my hand! And yes, my hair is naturally curly, people always ask!

I have a passion for people and history. People are cool and history is fascinating. Over the years, I have met some really interesting people from all walks of life. It's amazing what you can learn about someone by just taking five or ten minutes out of your day to chat. I also love kids, yes, even the naughty ones! I often get moms who bring forth their concerns that their toddler isn't going to smile, or their attention span is too short, or their kids are super shy around strangers. Don't worry, I got this! You will have fun and so will your kids, even the "too cool for family pictures" teenagers, I promise! If I have to make a complete fool of myself or put my big scary camera down for a few minutes to roll around in the leaves with your tiny humans, it will all be okay! My sessions are designed to be fun and laid back. There will be laughter! Because it will be fun...Or it might be because I will inevitably trip over something walking backward trying to get the perfect shot (Every.Single.Time), but either way, there will be laughter.

People often ask how my business came to be and to be honest, it wasn't really something that I had planned, I have loved photography for as long as I can remember. There isn't really a simple answer to that question. But what I can say is I love documenting things whether it's a historical moment in time or a child's milestone, I'll be there. One thing is certain, without the continued support of my family and my clients, I would never be where I am today and for that I am grateful!

I believe everyone should have memories of their family and the people they love the most. I would be honored to help you create those memories.  Any other questions? Just ask!
